Electric field lines due to dipole

Note that the figure is interactive, mouse drag to rotate and mouse scroll to zoom in/out

Using the simulation above feel the following statements about lines due to dipole

  1. Lines are parallel to dipole on axial line
  2. Lines are antiparallel to dipole on equatorial plane
  3. Dipole is the axis of symmetry of linesL
  4. All lines originate at positive (red) and terminate at negative (blue)
  5. The equatorial plane (perpendicular bisector of charges) is zero potential plane since it is equidistant from charges and E is perpendicular tio this plane
  6. The field is perpendicular to dipole when position vector of point wrt center of charges makes roughly tan-1(root(2) angle with dipole

Electric field at a point due to dipole

Use the following simulator to fell the direction of magnitude at any point due to dipole better. Keep ratio of charges =-1 to make ssytem as dipole.
Drag the point to find electric field vector
